The Horrors Of Eating Disorders

You can’t seem to make up your mind, you eat and eat and then you hide a purge or you starve yourself for weeks until you are at the lowest weight that you have ever been in your life. Anorexia and bulimia used to be considered the health problems of some confused young girls with troubled lives real or perceived. Lately doctors have found that more and more women are being diagnosed with an eating disorder of some kind. Other misconceptions about eating disorders are that people think that they are psychological problems that can be treated with medication easily and then the person is cured for life. Neither is true. In fact, this disorder is not easily treated and the person is left to deal with it affects throughout their lives. Doctor’s believe that hormonal variations occurring near the menopause of a woman may be the reason the eating disorder developed such late in life.

These women see themselves as being overweight despite the fact that they are extremely thin. These women developing strange eating rituals or eat and regurgitating over and over again. Body dissatisfaction is the main focus of these women. For unknown reasons they can’t seem to become comfortable in their own skin. They often believe that their behaviors are secret and no one notices or cares enough to pay attention. The idea that middle-aged women are having this problem is troubling to physicians as they work hard to try and prevent the disorder in young women. However, doctors can’t be sure if the middle aged women that are receiving treatment are new to the disorder. The thought is that they had these problems when they were very young and as they got older realized that they should seek treatment. Complicating things is that these women are finding it difficult to locate proper treatment because for so long the focus was put on the younger woman. The women that are suffering from anorexia and/or bulimia many times suffer from perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety. Substance abuse issues also many times play a role in many cases of both younger and older women. The most memorable and recent case occurred with a South American woman, a 24 year old teacher weighting only 77 pounds at 5 foot 2 inch tall when she passed away.

You or someone close to you might be suffering from this condition. It is a very harmful thing to suffer from, and if you suspect that someone is having trouble with an eating disorder then you should immediately take action to intervene. Do it in a graceful way so that the victim knows that you are looking out for her best interests. But don’t let it go on for any longer than it has to. Therapists are the most common way to deal with eating disorders, but there are also entire camps and seminars devoted to getting the victims back to regular eating habits.

The treatments include therapy, medication, and counseling and more counseling. Some others treatments tried are yoga. Studies have tried to link the two yoga and anorexia but studies were inconclusive and did not produce any significant changes in behavior or eating habits. Dissonance –based therapy which works as therapy and counseling aimed at the person’s competing ideas. There are group meetings and other more intensive therapies for those with severely dangerous cases of anorexia and/or bulimia. Many women have been able to make positive life changes to battle their self inflicted disorder and go on to live healthier lives. It has been reported that these women will have to battle the urges and cravings to purge or starve themselves for the rest of their lives. Since no cures exist for this disorder it is the hope of therapist and people suffering anorexia and/or bulimia, that some kind of definitive preventive measures can be developed or found.

Staying Fit On The Go

Just because you are a busy person with lots to do everyday, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have time to stay fit and keep in shape while traveling. Excuses do not keep you fit and in shape and able to keep up with the demands of your busy life. If you are a member of a health club it would benefit you greatly if you ask the club if it participates in any programs that offer privileges at other facilities. Guest passes to certain spa and athletic clubs are sometimes free for one day. If your hotel does not have arrangements with a club near your hotel, the hotel that you are staying at just might. Asking at the front desk may open your eyes to many possibilities for a workout away from home and you will find out exactly what your options really are. Lots of hotels at least have treadmills or similar machines, which are much better than simply laying in bed and watching TV during your stay. When traveling just remember that almost every town has a YMCA or YWCA. Locate the yellow pages in your hotel room and give them a call. Again, there is now no excuse to become a traveling couch potato. Opportunities for you to take care of your fitness needs abound in all of your business and personal travels.

If necessary you may need to get a little creative, by using your hotel room as the gym of the day. Exercising in your hotel room is an easily and very convenient way to make certain that you get in your work out without missing a beat. Before you leave for your trip pack some collapsible hand weights or elastic exercise bands or other equipment that is made for travel, and turn your hotel room into the indoor gym that it has the potential to be. Elastic bands are great for getting resistance without lugging around big old dumbbells everywhere you go. Use the chairs and other pieces of furniture to your advantage to satisfy all of your fitness needs. Body weight exercises are enough for a great workout. Combine crunches, pushups, and legups. You won’t exercise a large variety of muscles using only body weight, but you will at least be able to work on your heart and your endurance.

We understand that working out is not as easily done when you are in route to your next destination, so if your time is extremely tight and you don’t have time for a complete work out. There are other alternatives to not working out at all. Stretch in your room, take a long walk. I bet the hotel is just as nice on the other side of the pool. Speaking of pool, you could always take a swim. Swimming is definitely a workout that will work every muscle in your body. With all of these ideas for a good work out, if not the best work out that you’ve ever had, you should no longer have any excuse for not continuing your fitness routine while traveling. Just remember that it doesn’t really matter where you are when you do your work out but that you do your work out where you are. And if you can’t do the exact routine that you are useful, just take solace in the fact that you are getting a workout.

Garlic - The Secret Healing Food

This is a good article I'm sharing..

Not only the staple ingredient of many culinary dishes but garlic also has many health benefits. Here we look at the origins of garlic what are it's key healing properties and what health benefits it can provide to you.

The tern garlic is originally derived from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning 'Spear Leak' which is recognised from those times as the 'Spear Plant' in light of its resemblance to pointed leaves. The use of garlic has been shown to help reduce the risk of heart disease and lower peoples blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It also helps to ward off colds and flu by acting as an antiseptic destroying bacteria along with viral and fungal infections.

The dominant ingredient in garlic is a compound named allicin which is released from the bulb when it is cut or crushed. In the late 19th century amid many cases of infectious fever, garlic was identified as providing significant antibacterial effects. Medical practitioners of the time identified that English religious leaders contracted the infectious fever but the French leaders who consumed amounts of garlic in their diet remained healthy.

Other benefits provided by garlic include an excellent and natural insect repellent given the presence of compound within the garlic bulb which mosquitoes and the majority of bugs dislike.

Consuming only one garlic clove each day will ensure your bodys levels of vitamins A,B and C are maintained and ongoing research has begun to suggest that consuming a regular amount of garlic can help protect against certain stomach cancers. The early research suggests that the allicin compound can help to prevent potential cancerous changes within the stomach walls.

Garlic has strong antibiotic features and is therefore widely regarded as a good ingredient to ward off colds and influenza. Not only basic colds, but it has also shown to offer protection against viral, fungal, and bacterial infections. Further healing properties include a natural decongestant which can assist people suffering from respiratory problems.

It seems clear, that for just a small amount of garlic each and every day, you can provide yourself with significant health boosting effects with virtually no side-effects (other than the aroma it gives off!).

Diabetes Healing Foods - Important Things You Need To Know - Part I

This is a good article I'm sharing..

Our foods affect our blood sugar levels. No wonder that these days people are crazy searching for the diabetes healing foods. And this is nothing new. Earlier people would go crazy over the high-fat-low-carb diet recommended by Dr. Atkins. What people don't realize is that living a healthy life has nothing to do with counting calories or carbohydrates. It is more important to exercise moderation over what we eat. The root cause of diabetes is basically linked to over-eating. If we eat moderately, we have nothing else to worry. In this article I will tell you about how moderate eating can help you in getting rid of diabetes.

Let me point out another thing. The incidence of diabetes cases has increased to an astronomical amount during the recent years, and the reason is not hard to guess. More and more people are taking up corporate jobs, or surfing the internet for hours. These people are living a sedentary lifestyle, where there is little or no physical activity. Lack of physical activity causes obesity, which is often touted as the harbinger of diabetes and other ailments. If we can incorporate daily exercises into our schedules, we will soon be able to get rid of diabetes. Do you know what the link between diabetes and obesity is?

Normally, after we have a meal, our blood glucose level automatically rises a bit. Insulin's job is to control this glucose level by taking away the excess glucose from our blood and use it for energy production. Obesity makes our muscles resistant or insensitive to insulin. Once our muscles become insulin-resistant; then insulin is unable to control our blood sugar levels, and obviously, this is what causes diabetes. Do we have the ability to control our blood sugar levels? Sure. If we eat moderately, and spend thirty minutes or an hour in doing some physical exercises, we will be able to improve our situation by a good margin. Moderate eating doesn't mean that you have to eat a diet which is low in carbohydrate and rich in fat and protein. In fact, a good diet should have all the three elements - carbohydrates, proteins and fat in proper balance. These three elements serve different purposes inside our bodies; hence we cannot do without one or the other. For example, proteins serve the purpose of giving us satiety. If we don't get eat protein, we will feel hungry all the time. Carbohydrates serve the purpose of producing the energy needed to run our bodies, while fats provide us with a healthy skin and produce steroid hormones.

In the second part of this article, I will tell you about three magic diabetes healing foods which will give you all the necessary nutrition. In order to access the second part, simply click on the link in my resource box below.

Greens Are Great Healing Foods

This is a good article I'm sharing..

Greens are Great Healing Foods

Organic greens have been called some of the most healing foods on our planet*. Cereal grasses, especially, like oat grass, barley grass and wheat grass, contain every known vitamin, mineral, amino acid and enzyme necessary to sustain life. This includes minerals like calcium and magnesium that can help the body stay alkaline. They are also a great source of chlorophyll, which can help purify and build blood*.

Chlorella too is a green that can be very healing*. It helps the body detoxify, especially of heavy metals, like the cereal grasses do, and also has great antioxidant power*. Chlorella can also help stimulate your immune system and is good for the intestines.* For example, research shows that chlorella stimulates the growth of the good bacteria and absorbs toxic substances in the intestines.* Chlorella is full of many vitamins and minerals, including the powerful antioxidant, lipoic acid.

Greens including chlorella, if grown in the right soil, are rich in minerals and can hence be helpful along with coral calcium in bringing the body's pH back into a more alkaline range.

Grasses Can Repair Damaged DNA!

Grasses also seem to be an excellent intracellular DNA repair agent. This is important since we are all exposed to so many chemicals which can cause DNA damage, which in turn can lead to cancer. Cereal grasses can prove to be powerful agents to help restore and rejuvenate damaged DNA. In order to have all these benefits, you need to look for grasses that have not been burned or frozen, and that contain the whole grass, not just the juice. Adding lots of leafy greens to your diet, such as spinach, kale, collard and mustard greens can also be a good idea. But if you don't like or don't take the time or effort to eat organic leafy greens that come from rich soil two or three times per day, you might want to consider a good greens supplement.

Greens From the US Probably Contaminated, Even if Organic

In addition, most greens you buy in the United States come from grasses grown in the US. This can be a problem because our water supplies contain high levels of pesticide residues and contaminants, so even organically grown grasses in the US often end up contaminated. Our top soils are also in bad shape from years of chemical-based farming, and even if grown organically, it can take years for land to return to its pristine, healthy state. In addition, many grass or green mixes today add so-called natural flavors which is just another word for toxic MSG that can damage brain cells, and/or some kind of refined or artificial sugar, such as maltodextrin. This may make your greens taste better, but it will over time adversely affect your health. You can always take your greens in capsule form or mix the powder with juice at home if you need something to make it more palatable.

Ten Healing Foods Used in Chinese Herbal Medicine

This is a good article I'm sharing..

When we think about Chinese medicine, most of us immediately think of acupuncture, however, the use of herbs in healing is a cornerstone of Chinese medicine, too. The theory behind herbal medicine is that each herb exerts several different effects on the body through its inherent temperature, actions, and the organ(s) that it affects.

Like herbs, foods also have healing properties. However, some foods have stronger actions on the body and are in fact considered herbs as well as foods. Among them:

Ginger is best known for its ability to settle an upset stomach. Also considered a very warm herb, ginger can be combined with scallions in broth to fight off the early stages of a cold.

Walnuts have been getting the thumbs up lately as a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids. However, walnuts are also used in Chinese herbal formulas and in food therapy to moisten the intestines and relieve constipation. Walnuts are also considered a good tonic for the Chinese Kidney - think longevity.

Watermelon is a food you often crave on a hot, humid day, and for good reason. Watermelon is cooling and moistening, and is used in Chinese medicine for a condition called Summerheat, which is that blah nauseous feeling you get when it's really hot and sticky out.

Mung beans are also good for Summerheat. Boil the mung beans until they are soft and drink the water they were cooked in. If that sounds gross, just add a little broth, seasoning and some vegetables, and make it into a soup.

Cinnamon is warm and gets your energy moving. It's good if you have a cold with lots of aches and pains.

Scallions are also warming and dispersing (moving). They are most commonly used in the early stages of a cold boiled with ginger. Drink the broth and go to bed - these herbs are used to cause a mild sweat, which can diffuse a cold before it gets too severe.

Hawthorne fruit can be found in Asian markets, as a supplement, or as a sour candy called Hawflakes. Hawthorne is good for something called food stagnation in Chinese medicine, which is similar to indigestion.

Garlic is known to kill parasites. It's used as a flu preventative in Chinese medicine, as well as for food toxicity (food poisoning), with symptoms such as diarrhea and dysentery.

Chinese dates are great to tonify the Chinese Spleen. Signs of a Spleen weakness include shortness of breath, fatigue, poor appetite, lack of energy. Chinese dates can also be found in Asian markets and some health food stores. They can be eaten alone or added to salads and other dishes.

In the last couple of years, Goji berries have gotten a lot of attention as a food for health and longevity. Also known as Chinese Wolfberries, Goji berries are red, sweet and sour, and can be eaten or added to foods like raisins. In Chinese herbal medicine Goji berries are used for eye problems like blurred vision and diminished eyesight due to aging. Eating Goji berries for longevity wouldn't be wrong, as they also benefit the Chinese Kidneys, which are associated with aging.

Healing Foods

This is a good article I'm sharing..

Natural foods, like vegetables and fruits, which we eat every day have a healing power besides their great taste. It is recommended by doctors and specialists that we eat five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables every day, but how many of us actually do this? Although it sounds too much, once you make the decision it is easy to do.

You can start with the breakfast and add some fresh or dried fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas, etc. to your morning cereal. Then a midday snack like an apple or orange and a vegetable meal or a sandwich with lettuce or tomato for lunch. You've had three servings already. You can replace your afternoon coffee with a healthy fruit smoothie and for dinner, you can start with a salad and two vegetable courses instead of one entrée and one meat course. You have to slowly change all your eating habits towards the healthier one.

It is not just a tale that carrot is good for your eyes. It will really help improve your eyesight, if you get into the habit of eating some beta carotene rich carrot sticks instead of a candy bar. The more fresh and natural are the vegetables and fruits the healthier they are. Visit your local farms stand and choose the best looking, freshest cucumbers, tomatoes, apples or whatever catches your eye. They have a lot of vitamins that are good for you and they taste good as well. Also it is a great and interesting experience to pick a carrot out of the ground, wash it off and eat it. You should take your family to your local farm and experience this with your kids. While you are there get some of every fruit and vegetable you can find. Besides the great health benefits you will be getting from these healing foods, you will also be supporting the local farmers and natural foods.

The first step to a healthier lifestyle is changing your eating habits; you must start eating healthy healing foods instead of junk food which has no healing effect at all, on the contrary, is very harmful for your body. The choice you will make today, between healthy foods and junk foods will determine the future condition of your body. Just by eating natural vegetables and fruits, you will not have to see your doctor as much as those who do not and you will live a longer and healthier life than those who do not eat enough vegetables and fruits.

These fruits and vegetables we eat every day carry some special fighters which are known as antioxidants and they are essential for cleaning out our systems. You will start to feel much better and also to look better. Another thing you should add to your diet is bran which is also helpful for cleaning the system. Whole grains are great for your body to help cleanse itself and nuts lower your blood fat which lowers your cholesterol consequently. Low cholesterol is vital for lowering the risk of heart attacks.

In general, by starting to eat more healthily you will have a stronger immune system and the chances of you getting sick will significantly decrease.

12 Healthy Healing Foods From the Bible

Foreign seeds can be caught anywhere, includin...Image via WikipediaWhy does our society seem to seek every way to overcome sickness and disease other than looking in the best Instruction Manual that's been around for thousands of years? Why do we avoid the simplicity of the basics when it comes to our health? The "basics" I refer to are eating healthy foods, getting regular exercise and adequate sleep.
Of course, the best instruction manual I am referring to is the Bible and there must be hundreds of books out there educating us on the importance of adequate exercise and sleep. Yes, there are scads of books on what to eat, too, but if they tell you to eat something that seems to contradict what the Bible says is OK, you probably should do some serious research before incorporating it into a regular eating plan.
There are actually some diet/eating plans being promoted that in the long run, may not be very healthy. What a shame if you lose weight, for example, and then have a heart attack because you were eating way too much meat or didn't get adequate nutrition.
Do I even need to mention some things you should obviously avoid if you want to experience optimum health? Folks, as much as I hate to list anything, this is what I see around me in abundance: fried foods, sugar in just about everything it seems, artificial sweeteners, meals heavy in meats with few vegetables and fruits, almost all cooked, (very little raw foods), and diet drinks.
The foods listed in this report are by no means all the "healthy" foods mentioned in the Bible. They should, however, provide you with some guidance in your food choices.
1. Apples. Song of Solomon. Apples are considered to be the "all around health food." They are high in flavonoids, fiber and Vitamin C. Some of the apple's healing powers include:

A.      They lower both bad cholesterol and high blood pressure
B.      The juices in apples are highly effective virus fighters
C.      They help stabilize blood sugar, an important factor in controlling diabetes
D.      They suppress the appetite without robbing the body of necessary nutrients
E.       Depending on the need, they prevent constipation or help treat diarrhea
One caution: conventionally grown apples may be highly sprayed with pesticides and coated with wax. Purchase organically grown apples when possible.
2. Barley. Deuteronomy 8:8, Ezekiel 4:9. Barley's high fiber content can help keep us regular, relieve constipation and ward off a wide variety of digestive problems. It also may help block cancer. Barley is full of beta glucans, a type of fiber that can lower the risk of heart disease by reducing the levels of artery-clogging LDL.
3. Coriander (Cilantro). When the children of Israel wandered in the desert and received manna from the sky, they described it as looking like coriander seed. Since then coriander has been called "the healer from heaven." Coriander is recommended for indigestion, flatulence (excessive gas) and diarrhea. Externally, it's used to ease muscle and joint pain. Recently, scientists began looking at coriander as an anti-inflammatory treatment for arthritis. Other research has demonstrated that it reduces blood sugar levels, an indication that it may prove to be a useful sugar management tool for diabetics.
4. Fish. Luke 24:42-43. Fish is low in cholesterol and contains healthy polyunsaturated fats. Fish is a rich source of protein, potassium, vitamins and minerals with only a moderate amount of sodium. Eating fish:

* Thins the blood
* Protects arteries from damage
* Inhibits blood clots (anti-thrombotic)
* Reduces blood triglycerides
* Lowers LDL blood cholesterol
* Lowers blood pressure
* Reduces risk of heart attack and stroke
* Eases symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
* Reduces risk of lupus
* Relieves migraine headaches
* Fights inflammation
* Helps regulate the immune system
* Inhibits cancer in animals and possibly humans
* Soothes bronchial asthma
* Combats early kidney disease
The key to the healing powers of fish lies in the omega-3 fatty acids. These are particularly concentrated in cold-water fish such as anchovies, bluefish, herring, lake trout, mackerel, sable fish, whitefish, flue fin tuna, salmon and sardines. Note: in deciding between "healthy" and "unhealthy" fish, you can get specific instruction from Lev. 11:9. Eat only fish which have both fins and scales.
5. Garlic. One of the world's oldest healing foods. By the time of Moses, garlic was already being used as an anticoagulant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor agent, as well as a relief for flatulence, a diuretic, a sedative, a poultice and as a cure for internal parasites. Research suggests that garlic may help protect against heart disease and stroke by lowering blood pressure. It contains allylic sulfides, which may neutralize carcinogens. In fact, garlic has been linked to lower rates of stomach cancer, too. It is heart-friendly, with scores of studies showing its astonishing ability to fight hypertension, prevent blood clots and lower cholesterol.
6. Fruits, Berries, Grapes. Numbers 13:23, II Samuel 16:1-2. Grapes were the first thing Noah planted after the flood. Grapes were eaten fresh, dried and eaten as raisins just as we do today, and pressed into cakes. However, most of the crop of the vineyards was made into juice, wine and vinegar. A cup of raw grapes contains only 58 calories, 0.3 grams of fat, zero cholesterol and vitamins A, B and C. Grapes also contain important minerals such as boron, calcium, potassium and zinc.
Grapes may be helpful in preventing osteoporosis, fighting tooth decay, heading off cancer and fighting off viruses. Other health-giving fruits include figs, melons, and pomegranates.
7. Legumes. 2 Samuel 17:28-29, Genesis 25:34. As reported in the book of Samuel, beans were among the highly nutritious foods sent to feed King David's hungry army and restore their strength for the hard times ahead. Beans have a lot of soluble fiber, which helps lower LDL and reduce blood pressure. The fiber also helps keep blood sugar levels stable, stave off hunger, and even reduce the insulin requirements of people suffering from diabetes.
Beans are a great source of protein as well as being packed full of vitamin C, iron and dietary fiber. Beans help lower blood pressure and reduce the "bad" cholesterol that today's research has shown to be the cause of so much devastating heart trouble --- a rarity centuries ago. Beans contain chemicals that inhibit the growth of cancer. They help prevent constipation, can stop hemorrhoids and other bowel-related problems from developing, and help cure them if they do.
8. Nuts, including almonds, pistachio nuts and walnuts. Song of Solomon 6:11, Gen. 43:11. Botanists today believe that Solomon's "garden of nuts" referred to in Scripture was a rich grove of walnut trees. At the time, walnuts were prized for the oil they produced, which was regarded as only slightly inferior to olive oil. The fact that walnuts were a delicious treat and highly nutritious was an added bonus. Nuts contain the right mixtures of natural ingredients whose benefits include cancer prevention, a lower risk of heart disease and help for diabetics. The oil found in walnuts is considered helpful because it is one of the "good guy" polyunsaturated fats and tends to lower blood cholesterol levels. Note: it's best to avoid roasted nuts since they have been found to carry carcinogens, which could lead to cancer growth, so buy your nuts raw.
9. Olives. The olive was one of the most valuable and versatile trees of biblical times. It is mentioned frequently throughout the Bible. Probably the most famous reference to olive oil and its healing powers is in the parable of the good Samaritan, in which the Samaritan cares for a beaten and robbed traveler, treating his wounds with oil and wine. Olive oil, mixed with wine, was even used to soften and soothe bruises and wounds. Known benefits of olive oil include:
* Lowers blood cholesterol
* Reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol levels
* Retards cancer growth
* Reduces the wear and tear of aging on the tissues and organs of the body and brain
* Reduces gastric acidity
* Protects against ulcers and aids the passage of food through the intestines, helping to prevent constipation
* Reduces the risk of gallstones
* Aids normal bone growth
One CAUTION: olive oil has a slight laxative effect, so add it to your diet gradually.

One TIP: the more pure the olive oil, the better, so spend a little extra and get Virgin Olive Oil.
10. Onions. Numbers 11:5. Like its cousin, garlic, the onion is noted as a cure-all. And the folk healers hold it in high regard as far back as 6000 years or more. At least 3000 years before the birth of Christ, onions were treasured both as food and for their therapeutic value --- particularly in the treatment of kidney and bladder problems. Some facts about onions:
* Taken internally as a tonic to soothe intestinal gas pains
* Taken internally to alleviate the symptoms of hypertension, high blood sugar and elevated cholesterol
* Some people attribute their long life to a diet that includes high concentrations of onions and yogurt
* The juice of an onion and a syrup made from honey has been used to treat coughs, colds, and asthma attacks
* A tonic of onions soaked in gin has been prescribed for kidney stones and to eliminate excessive fluids
* Modern herbalists recommend onion syrup as an expectorant (it helps eliminate mucus from the respiratory tract)
* Onions can raise the good and lower the bad cholesterol
* Onions can slow blood clotting, regulate blood sugar, break up bronchial congestion and possibly prevent cancer
* Onions possess a strong antibiotic that kills a variety of bacteria
* Have been used externally as an antiseptic and a pain reliever
11. Wheat. Jeremiah 41:8, Ezekiel 4:9. Wheat was the "staff of life." Biblical people ate their grain boiled and parched, soaked and roasted, and even ate it green from the stalk. It was pounded, dried or crushed to be baked into casseroles, porridges, soups, parched grain salads and desserts. Ezekiel's bread was intended to be a survival food during the dark days of the Babylonion conquest because it contained wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt. Wheat bran is high in insoluble fiber. The fiber protects us against constipation. It helps prevent intestinal infections, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. It also improves bowel function and guards us against colon cancer.
12. Wine. I Timothy 5:23. John 4:46. Making wine from grapes is one of the most ancient arts and the beverage of choice in the Bible. According to Genesis, one of the first things Noah did after the flood was plant a vineyard so he could make wine. Researchers are now rediscovering what the physicians of the Bible knew centuries ago. In moderation, wine has a profound impact on our health and healing. Just a single glass of wine a day may be enough to raise the good cholesterol by 7% and help the body put up a barrier to a variety of cancers.
Wine appears to help stop heart disease and cancer. A study at the University of Ottawa in Canada concluded that there is a clear link between wine consumption and lower rates of heart disease. Countries where more than 90% of alcohol is consumed in the form of wine have the lowest rate of heart disease deaths.
A British study of 100 men and women discovered that a single glass of wine or sherry everyday increased the HDL or good cholesterol. When the group abstained from drinking wine, the HDL level decreased.
Red wine also seems to increase the body's defenses against cancer. White wine may carry some of the same therapeutic benefits, but research so far seems to indicate that red wine is the most effective cancer blocker. Note: be sure to drink only in moderation. Ephesians 5:18.
As you can see, the Bible lists a lot of foods, foods that are actually available to us today, that we could be consuming to prevent illness, serious diseases and many trips to the doctor. Good health is not that difficult, but you do have to work at it a bit. It's a balance of what you eat, exercise, sleep, avoiding stress, taking vitamin supplements. And strange as it may seem, the Bible is actually a complete instruction Manual for all of this.
In conclusion, the 12 healing foods listed here are only a partial list of healing foods found in the Bible. However, this report provides abundant evidence that God has placed on this earth, many health-giving foods for our consumption. A person who makes a serious effort to daily eat some of these health-giving foods, while avoiding health-destroying foods, certainly can expect to reap the benefits of a healthier body.

The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods: Proven Natural Remedies to Treat and Prevent More Than 80 Common Health Concerns

Beat the Blues With Healing Foods

SAN FRANCISCO - MAY 20: Six packs and single ...Image by Getty Images via @daylifeOur whole body and its functions are controlled by our brains. The chemicals in our brain such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine are the chemicals that help us communicate, but they also help in many other ways such as our moods. These chemicals can cause us to feel depressed and to have food cravings, but they can also cause us to feel calm and have a feeling of well being in our lives.
Lets look at fish. Turns out that tuna and other oily fish contain lots of omega 3's and are sometimes shown to help lower rates of depression. Like carbohydrates? Eat up! Studies show that carbohydrate-rich foods tend to help increase the amino acid tryptophan which is converted into mood boosting serotonin. This may explain why people who eat comfort foods high in carbohydrates feel some relief from depression, anxiety and fatigue. Those who leave off the carbohydrates sometimes continue to feel depressed and grouchy.
Some people eat pasta, potatoes and bread by the pan fulls and are not affected at all. Then the people who crave carbohydrates show a great increase in good feelings. Our bodies may be trying to compensate for low carbohydrates by counteracting serotonin levels. Some who eat carbohydrates for lunch feel very sleepy after the meal while the the people who crave them may feel energized by it.
Its no secret that some people experience rather bad mood swings at certain times. Some of us feel really sad during the dark winter days and women feel depressed, bloated and grouchy before their monthly cycles. In some studies it has been shown that eating more carbohydrates help brighten our moods in winter and any other time. It does not take a bushel of carbohydrates, but something like a serving of whole wheat pasta, a potato or a 1/2 cup serving of raisins.
Maybe you have thought you felt droopy or let down after eating several cookies or a good cup of cappuccino. You are not dreaming or imagining it! Eating too much sugar or even caffeine can give sensitive people a feeling of bad depression.
Enjoying a doughnut or maybe a candy bar seems like it gives us a "feel better feeling" for a while after eating it. However a continuous habit of eating sugary foods and sugar period can certainly be linked to depression.
Even tho not much extended study on caffeine seems to have been done...it seems like cutting back on high caffeine drinks may give your spirit a lift.
Some studies show that seriously depressed people who got off sugar and caffeine for approximately 3 weeks felt lots less depression.
I've been interested in the affect food has on our bodies for many years. I've experienced some of these things already but look forward to feeling better and getting healthier with the information available here

Asparagus: Calms the palpitation of the heart

AsparagusImage via WikipediaDid you know that asparagus is said to strengthen and develop the artistic faculties. Also asparagus calms palpitation of the heart and it is very helpful to rheumatic patients on account of its salts of potash.
How should asparagus be cooked to retain its natural healing properties?
It should be steamed, not boiled, otherwise part of the valuable salts are lost.

Almonds as a Natural Remedy

Almonds are best known as snacks or ingredients for pastry and icecream, but did you know that almonds also have medicinal use?

Almond soup is an good substitute for beef-tea for convalescents. You can make it by simply blanching and pounding a quarter of a pound of sweet almonds with half a pint of milk, or vegetable stock. Then add another pint of milk or stock. Warm, then add another pint and a half of stock if the soup is to be a vegetable one, or rice water if milk has been used.

An emulsion of almonds is beneficial to remedy chest affections. It is made by fully macerating the nuts in a nut butter machine, and mixing with orange or lemon juice.

Almonds should always be blanched, that is, skinned by pouring boiling water on the nuts and allowing them to soak for one minute, after which the skins are easily removed. The latter possess irritating properties.

Warning: Bitter almonds should not be used as a food. They contain a poison identical with prussic acid.

Fruits and Food as Natural Healing Remedies

A British authority on gout used to advise his patients to take oranges, lemons, strawberries, grapes, apples, pears. A Frenchman, on the otherhand, found that salts of potash found so plentifully in fruits are the chief agents in purifying the blood from these rheumatic and gouty poisons.

Yes, ailments that are often treated with drugs can be remedied naturally with fruits and vegetables.

In South of France, the so-called "grape cure" was widely practiced: patients are fed on grapes alone, and become quite strong and well in a year or two. A fruitarian diet has been known to help fight cancer, tumour, gout, eczema, all kinds of inflammatory complaints, and wounds that refused to heal.

Isn't it about time that you start eating more fruits and vegetables to avoid these common health problems? After all, chewing a juicy green apple is more appealing than popping pills in your mouth, right?
